This lesson is inspired by the story “The Peach” by an 8-year-old named Maci and an 11-year-old named Lydia from South Carolina. In the story, a girl named Sarah goes with her mom to a plant store and buys a strange glowing peach seed that comes with strange water and strange fertilizer. When she plants it and then eats its glowing fruit, she turns into a mermaid, learns how to swim, and then is ready to meet the Mermaid Queen. In the end, it turns out that her own mother who took her to the plant store in the first place was the Mermaid Queen all along--what a twist!
